Fifty years ago when we moved from the city of Racine into our new home in the Town of Caledonia, our location changed but our zip code remained the same. Hence, our legal residence was Racine, Wisconsin, while our actual home was elsewhere. You don’t know how often when giving our address to someone, I’d explain that our mailing address was Racine, but that we actually resided in the Town (now Village) of Caledonia.
About a month ago, I read in the newspaper that the U. S. Postal Service had decided that we could use our actual location while keeping the same zip code. Immediately, we started getting mail addressed to Caledonia, Wisconsin. No more awkward explanations about how our address was in one place, but that we actually lived in another.
Today, my wife’s Bible study group is finishing their study of Revelation, and tonight our men’s study is wrapping up our study of Daniel. Both these books of the Bible tell about the end times, when God brings to a conclusion His plan of salvation and restoration for His Kingdom. It will be a time when the new heaven and the new earth will be one; a place where the citizens of the Kingdom will assume their place in their rightful home by the grace of God.
So, my wife and I are still living in the same house of course. But our real home is elsewhere.
If you’re a Christian, your zip code may define your earthly location, but your home is in heaven where the King knows you by name. Embrace this truth to your eternal comfort.
Fun thoughts Robert. Wow, 50 years of explanations. After my mother died I heard my dad answer the phone. He listened and said “No, she doesn’t live here anymore. She lives in heaven and hasn’t called to give me her number”.

You’ve reminded me of an old song, “This World Is Not My Home.” It still plays in my mind now and then. Maybe you remember it too?
“This world is not my home, I’m just a-passing through. My treasures are laid up somewhere beyond the blue. The angels beckon me from heaven’s open door, and I can’t feel at home
In this world anymore!”
