What’s Going On Here? #2

Have you ever heard of rolled ice cream? Me neither. But last weekend we made a stop at Oh Icee! in Springfield, Illinois, where our grandson Ben showed us what it’s all about. The round freezer plate he’s working on is cooled to well below zero. Here he is making my wife’s treat, a strawberry cheesecake ice cream. First, he mushes the cheesecake and starts it cooling. Next he adds a cup of the liquid ice cream mixture, and mixes everything together in a manner not unlike the chefs who cook on the hibachi grill; you know, chop, chop, chop, stir. then he spreads the mixture into a thin sheet, and squares it up as shown. Using the spatula, he rolls up five strips, and inserts the ensuing rolls standing on end into a cup . Add some syrup and toppings, and you have a custom made treat that’s as delicious to eat as it was fun to watch.

This is not a franchise (yet) so you can only get this served up by Ben in Springfield. It’s worth the trip.
