Does God Care?

A letter arrived in our mailbox yesterday. It was hand-addressed to my deceased brother. It was from a Jehovah’s Witness and was intended to get the recipient to ask the question, “Does God Care?”. I sent the letter back with a letter of my own, reproduced below.

Dear Sir,

The person to whom you addressed your letter, John Frohlich, died seven years ago. I don’t know where you obtained his address, but for me, John’s brother, it was disturbing to receive a hand addressed letter with his name on it. Nevertheless, I forgive you.

Your letter asks the question, “Does God care about you?”. My reply would be, “Yes, I know God cares about me.”. The Bible tells me all I need to know.

Before I was even born, God knew me: Psalms 139:15-16 (ESV) My frame was not hidden from you, when I was being made in secret, intricately woven in the depths of the earth. Your eyes saw my unformed substance; in your book were written, every one of them, the days that were formed for me, when as yet there was none of them.

God loves me: Psalms 103:8 (ESV) The LORD is merciful and gracious, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love.

God saved me: Romans 10:9 (ESV) …if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.

God’s gave me the faith to believe: Ephesians 2:8-10 (ESV) For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast. For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.

God’s plan from the very beginning was to save me: Romans 8:28-30 (ESV) And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose. For those whom he foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, in order that he might be the firstborn among many brothers. And those whom he predestined he also called, and those whom he called he also justified, and those whom he justified he also glorified.

So it is by grace, through faith in Christ alone that I can be confident that God cares about me. I hope you can have the same confidence.

Peace,

Robert Frohlich

  1. God bless you, Robert, for taking the time to write this letter! I pray the recognizes the truth of what you’ve shared–or at least become curious about what IS true. May your letter arrive at just the right time when he/she will be most receptive. I’m also praying you’ll hear back from them!

  2. Well done, its always good to use the Word to defeat them like Jesus did with satan in the desert. Even if their bible has changed the scriptures, the Holy Spirit will use it. Kind of you to correct them.

  3. Hi Robert, I’m sorry I never said I’m sorry for the loss of your brother John in my comments. Gosh yes quite a shock to get a letter addressed to your late brother 🥲 actually a big shock. Really sorry. But as we know God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God. Romans 8:28. Definitely true in your case. I’m finding out my failings daily 🙄 ie rushing to say something in case of ….. 🤷‍♀️But just to say I’m still healing in that area … 🙏 God bless you.
