Today, during my morning prayer time, I remembered a dark time in my life decades ago when I tried to walk away from God, when I desired to live in the ways of the world, denying Christ. I recalled a specific incident where I verbally discounted the very faith that had saved me years before.
I spent a lot of time this morning trying to figure out why that happened, what could possibly have led me to turn my back on life-saving faith in Christ. By God’s grace my devotional reading today was an account in the Psalms of a time when Israel rebelled in the desert. And I recalled the account of Peter, denying Jesus in the courtyard. God, in His mercy restored them to full faith.
As I poured out my heart to my heavenly Father today, I received blessed comfort in the truth that it is God who saves, and nothing can change that.
“For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord”. Romans 8:38-39 (ESV)
